Mayor John F. Bush

John Bush graduated from Indiana State University with a B.S. in Education, M.S. in Mathematics and Ph. D. in Guidance and Psychological Services. He was elected Mayor of Winter Springs in 1993. During his tenure as Mayor the city started the planning of the Town Center, the Fourth of July Celebration, the beautification of State Road 434, and was instrumental in keeping the taxes in Winter Springs the lowest in Seminole County. He quickly became one of the most respected Mayors in the history of Winter Springs.

After working as Director of Admissions and University Registrar for the University of Central Florida, John became a software consultant to universities and colleges. He has worked for IBM, PeopleSoft, and CIBER corporations. He currently works part-time as an independent software consultant to universities and colleges. John also serves as an unpaid administrator for the First Baptist Church of Winter Springs. John serves on the executive board of the Seminole Work Opportunity Program, which serves the handicapped in Seminole County and the surrounding areas.

Recognized by the City Commission in 1996 for his outstanding leadership as mayor, John earned the respect of the citizens and the commission for his vision, leadership and integrity in city government.

John and his wife Kay are 26-year residents of Winter Springs. They have five children and six grandchildren. Daughter, Kelly Thompson, is Assistant Principal at Hagerty High School in Oviedo and daughter, Pamela Lynch, teaches French and German at Hagerty High School in Oviedo. Son, Mark, works at the Seminole Work Opportunity Program (SWOP) wood shop, son, Ryan lives and works in Ft. Collins, Colorado, and son, Michael, lives and works in Centralia, Illinois. Kay is a retired high school assistant principal at Lyman High School and was instrumental in starting the International Baccalaureate Program in the Seminole County Schools.
