The Crime Prevention Unit has a variety of programs available to the residents of Winter Springs. The goal of the Police Department is to assist the people to better prepare themselves through these prevention and awareness programs, to reduce the risk of becoming a victim and improve their quality of life. Crime Prevention and public awareness are essential tools in reducing the crime rate in our communities. Through general knowledge and personal awareness, every individual should have the ability to assist the Police Department in successfully combating crime. The following programs are available to help you, your family, and your community.
The Lock Box Program is intended to provide Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) access to your residence in the event of an emergency where you are unable to open the door. A key to your residence will be stored in a secure metal storage device, similar to a realtor's lock box, near the entrance to your residence. A drug amnesty drop box has been placed in the lobby of the Winter Springs Police Department which will allow you to drop off any unwanted medications 24 hours a day 7 days a week with no questions asked. This will provide an opportunity for the citizens to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for proper destruction. These types of drugs are a potential risk to public health and safety and the police department is committed to the safe disposal of these drugs.
The purpose of this form is to provide an easily accessible method for First Responders to access important medical information upon their arrival to a scene. The form consists of an informational card that you fill out that contains pertinent medical information. This card is then placed in the supplied brightly colored magnetic pouch and placed in a highly visible area of your home. The pouches and initial cards can be picked up from the Winter Springs Police Department or by contacting a Community Services Officer at 407-327-7565. The Winter Springs Police Department in conjunction with Waste Pro has established the Waste Pro Watch Program. This program is aimed to reduce crime in our neighborhoods by working together to keep our streets safe. All Waste Pro employees that work in the Winter Springs area will be trained to look for suspicious activity and report it immediately to the Winter Springs Police Department. The Waste Pro employees will be another set of eye's to assist the Winter Springs Police Department in deterring crime. With their help, we hope that this make people think twice about committing a crime for they never know who is watching.
Help establish a program in your business community. This program will help reduce crime and the fear of crime. We will teach you how to observe and report suspicious activity and crimes in progress. We can also assist your business and employees with a Retail Theft or Robbery Prevention program.
Call to have a certified Crime Prevention Officer conduct a FREE CONFIDENTIAL security check of your home or business. This program is a 6 hour class taught by certified Law Enforcement Officers. This class is for WOMEN ONLY ages 12 and up. The class will teach you how to lessen your chances of becoming a victim of a crime and give you techniques to use if you are attacked. Citizens that are 16 years of age and older can ride with officers on patrol. An application must be filled out and a criminal background check must be run at least 2 days prior to the date you want to ride. Upon approval you will be allowed to ride for 4 hours, once a month. This program allows those living alone an important link to Law Enforcement daily. We call you at the same time, convenient to you, every day. If you do not answer after 3 calls, an officer is sent to check on your well being. Click here for more information.

A committee of citizens made up mostly of Homeowner's Association representatives and Neighborhood Watch representatives that meet every 2nd Wednesday of each month.
