Disaster Supply Kits
Food and Water
- Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
- Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food. A two-week supply would be best.
- Manual can opener
- Foods for individuals with dietary restrictions (i.e. infants, elderly, etc.)
- Canned or boxed juices or energy drinks
- Snack foods
- Infant formula
- Cooking tools and fuel
- Mess kits, paper cups, plates, and plastic utensils, paper towels
- Pet food and extra water for your pet
First Aid Kit and Medications
- Two-week supply of prescription medications
- First aid kit
- First aid book or information
- Over-the-counter medications
- Sunscreen and mosquito repellent
Clothing and Important Documents
- Complete change of clothing for each person including a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
- Raincoat and boots
- Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person
- Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification papers, and bank account records in a waterproof, portable container.
Tools and Other Supplies
- Cash or traveler’s checks and change
- Prescription glasses
- Local map of shelters
- Fire Extinguisher
- Whistle to signal for help
- Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
- Disinfectant and household bleach
- Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
- Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
- Matches in a waterproof container
- Needle and thread
- Paper and pencil
- Baby diapers and supplies
- Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
